Kerosene/Coal Oil Gallon Can

20th century one gallon kerosene fuel container. Every household need at least one to keep the lamps filled.
If I remember right, coal oil is a distillation by-product from the coking and gas producing process. Before the wide spread use of petroleum and natural gas, coal was cooked to drive off the volatile gases and used for home and industrial heating and lighting. The heavier distilate in liquid form was coal oil. The solids are coke; a nearly pure form of carbon vital to the iron and steel industry.
