These posnet I would class as transitional items. A three legged pot doesn't transfer heat efficiently when used on a stove. Rather than throw out good utensils, people would cut down the legs. The rounded bottom of these pots combined with the elongated casting gate meant that little stub legs had to be left for the pot be sit stable.
