Broad Axe

The broad axe is used to shape timbers.
Their cutting edge is sharpened on one side only.
The handle is offset or bent away from the cutting side.
Typically a log was marked with a string
then cuts were made with an ordinary axe to depth
The broad axe was used to remove the excess material.
