Traders, sutlers, and other vendors

But first:

We have a bias against mail order houses and e-commerce sites including our own.  We would much rather have you buy from your local people.  We also think it is unethical to shop your locals to touch, feel, examine and get information on a product and then turn around and buy from a distant vendor.
There are times however when long distance buying is appropriate. When there are no local dealers who carry exactly what you want or need.  When you have shopped their mobile operation.
Be aware that hand crafted goods are made with love.  Very few craftsmen on the rendezvous circuits are making wages from their goods.  Pay the price and treasure the piece. Honor their skill.
Don't forget to take into account that little extra shipping and handling charge when comparing prices.  Exactly what is a handling charge? If it's supposed to be cheaper to operate a mail order business than a retail store, how come businesses are charging you regular store prices plus a handling charge?
Watch out when they say four to six weeks for delivery. That says to me that either they don't carry any and are waiting to accumulate enough orders to buy from their supplier or that they are using an outside source to fulfill their orders.

Now here are trade links

Panther Primitives can fix you up with any size, any style shelter.  They also carry an extensive line up of clothing, camp gear, craft supplies. Their prices are very good.  Their selection is broad yet focused.

Cascade Biological Supply.  George Brady contacted us about handling furs, skulls, etc.  They don't fit into our mix but if you're interested in furs and things right out of the original American Fur Company, Northwest Company and Hudson's Bay territory, give him a holler in Pateros, Wa. 98846; email Cascadeb@televar.com

The Cumberland General Store has a great catalog.  The catalog is worth the price.  They have some things you just can't easily find anywhere.  They have lots of stuff but their prices on everything I could cross check are outrageously high. We are in direct competition for price and service on many items.

Lehman's Hardware and Appliances Non-Electric Catalog is another catalog worth the price.  They have the things you need where electricity is not available.  (They snuck a few electric things in there but who cares)  Lehman's pays the freight to all but the West coast which makes their prices decent although not bargains. We are in direct competition for price and service on many items.

Log Cabin Shop has a good catalog for muzzleloader enthusiasts.  Good winter read and a place to find your stuff when you can't make it to a rendezvous.

Dixie Gun Works has the big catalog for muzzleloader enthusiasts.  A good read, full of information.

Jas Townsend & Son, Inc. has a small full color catalog. They have recently revamped their online catalog. I was impressed. Their selection is fairly good.  They have some really neat exclusive items that will make your camp stand out and their prices are reasonable.

Crazy Crow Trading Post has a big full color catalog.  They are big on American Indian craft supplies.   Their prices are fair and reasonable.

Amazon Vinegar & Pickling Works Drygoods has an amazing series of catalogs.  Small print, black & white, but a fabulous selection of books, any pattern you could possibly want, period shoes and hats of every description, and a selection of other Victorian goods.  Our experience with them was very good.
